Principal Consultant Chris faced a challenge within the Chemical Industry recently when a desirable role came up with one of his clients.
The position was a Quality Control Coordinator and the main stumbling block for Chris was that the role wasn’t exclusive to White Label. With two agencies having already been engaged to work on the role, Chris was later entering the process.
The other obstacle was that the Operations Director, who was the lead interviewer, had limited time available for interviews as he has a Europe-wide role.
Chris quickly realised that speed was of the essence in this case. Fortunately, this sector is his specialism, so he was able to form the core candidate shortlist quickly. His impressive network of relevant and engaged personnel meant that he was able to rapidly gauge interest about the available position.
His strong relationship with the client also meant he was able to secure a face-to-face meeting with him soon after the role was announced.
This flurry of initial activity subsequently gave Chris the opportunity to manage the process effectively from the start, allowing him to find the best candidate for the job.
Communication was also of vital importance in this case. Chris spoke to the client promptly and then kept in regular contact with him via email and the potential candidates to ensure everyone was up to date on both timelines and requirements.

Chris’ quick thinking and commitment to the client meant that their relationship emerged stronger because of it. His knowledge of the industry added a significant amount of value to the process and his site visit meant that his understanding of the role specification was unrivalled.
This meant that he:
- Only put forward relevant candidates who were genuinely interested in the role
- Was able to set realistic timescales
- Worked efficiently, without wasting the client’s or the candidates’ time
- Thoroughly prepared the candidates for their interviews
- Managed the offer process in a smooth, logical and uncomplicated manner
This resulted in both a happy client and a happy candidate – a win-win situation for everybody! Chris’ efficiency with the process meant that the client also got the opportunity to manage a two-week handover with the outgoing postholder, thus saving the client time, money and effort in the induction process.
